Admission to the Institute
Messianic Life Institute offers programs leading to Associates, Bachelors, Masters, and Doctors degrees in Messianic Jewish Ministry & Theology. [Return to Top of Page]
In order to be admitted to one of MLI's degree programs, a prospective student must (1) have sufficient academic ability and spiritual maturity to be successful in advanced biblical study, (2) possess good character as measured by biblical standards, (3) be in substantial agreement with MLI's doctrinal beliefs. Admission to the Undergraduate or Masters Programs
Admission to MLI's Associate and Bachelors programs requires that the applicant have a High School diploma or its equivalent. Students who have previously earned an undergraduate degree in any subject will be presumed academically qualified for admission to MLI's Masters degree program. Students who apply for graduate admission without a previously earned undergraduate degree will be evaluated for academic ability through testing and other means and, if deemed qualified, will be admitted. The reason an undergraduate degree is not an absolute requirement for admission to MLI is that, in biblical and theological studies, graduate education does not build on undergraduate courses in the same way as in some other fields (e.g. mathematics). That notwithstanding, all applicants must demonstrate prerequisite preparation, including substantial Bible knowledge and significant skills in English comprehension and writing. Admission to the Doctors Program
The requirements for admission to a Doctors degree program are the same as for the Masters degree except that the doctoral applicant must have a previously-earned Masters degree. If the field of the applicant's Masters degree is not in biblical studies, theology or ministry, the applicant must either demonstrate adequate knowledge, or take remedial Masters-level courses prior to matriculation. Transfer In of Previously Earned Credits
Students may transfer in to their Masters degree program, the previously-earned credits of courses that were taken (and completed with a grade of B or better) at other schools of good reputation. Credit transfer is limited by there being an 18 credit residence course requirement, and further limited to courses that are substantially equivalent to those taught at MLI. Credit transfer is solely at the discretion of MLI's Committee on Admissions. [Return to Top of Page]
Credit for Proficiency and Prior Achievement
Credit may be granted to students who demonstrate special proficiency or prior achievement in relevant areas of their educational pursuit. For such credit to be granted, the proficiency or achievement must be shown to have direct equivalence to the program's requirements; in this regard, it is not the same as credit for life experience. Decisions on awarding credit for proficiency and achievement are made by MLI's Committee on Admissions on a case by case basis. [Return to Top of Page]
Credit for Life Experiences
MLI recognizes that certain life experiences, relevant to the student's educational program, may have credit value. Credit that is granted for life experiences is at the sole discretion of the MLI's Committee on Admissions, and may not exceed 15 credits. [Return to Top of Page]
